It lets out super hot, melted rock called , tiny bits of ash, and steamy gases from deep, deep inside our planet. Think of it like a giant burp from Earth's tummy!

As the plate slowly slides over this hot spot, it can create a line of volcanoes, one after another, like beads on a string. The beautiful Hawaiian Islands were made this way!

When this happens, the ground above it can collapse, creating a giant bowl-shaped dip called a .
