Have you ever seen a picture of a mountain with smoke coming out of its top? That's a ! A volcano is like a special opening in Earth's skin, or crust, that lets out super hot, melted rock called , tiny bits of rock called , and steamy gases from deep, deep inside our planet. It's like Earth is breathing out!

Most volcanoes on Earth pop up where big pieces of Earth's skin, called , are either bumping into each other or pulling apart.
